Banana Republic Expands Home Goods Line With Cashmere Cotton and $4,950 Sofas

Earlier this year, Banana Republic dipped its toe into the home goods industry with the launch of BR Home, a line of bedding, rugs, pillows and other home textiles. Now Gap Inc.’s most premium fashion label is expanding further into the category by adding furniture, lighting and home decor to BR Home’s lineup.

BR Home’s furnishings span bedroom, living room and dining room furniture, ranging from $1,250 to $3,450 for dining pieces and $2,650 to $4,950 for sofas. The furniture line is made with materials such as French oak, marble, brass, cotton cashmere and organic cotton. Some pieces, such as the upholstered seating in the Stinson collection, were hand made by craftsmen in North Carolina and Virginia, using sustainably sourced hardwoods. The Stinson sofa is custom-made and comes in seven configurations.

Banana Republic also partnered with artisans for other collections, such as woodcarvers in Java, Indonesia, for the Phoenix collection and weavers from the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco for the Atlas Moroccan rugs collection. The Nova collection of chandeliers features hand-rolled clay beading carrying the fingerprints of the women who made them. And the Marquis and Savannah dining collections are made with timber sourced from rural communities  and sequester significant amounts of carbon.

“Whether traditional global handicraft, American heritage production, or small companies working in this era of maker culture, product craftsmanship is a Banana Republic legacy,” said Aaron Rose, chief commerce and experience officer for Banana Republic. “This dynamic collection celebrates the beauty of high-quality natural materials and skilled artisans, creatives, and those designers whose work reflects our brand values and allows us to support craftsmanship communities around the world.”

BR Home’s furniture, lighting and decor collections represent three design aesthetics: Textured modern, classic chic and explore. Textured modern blends classic and contemporary styling with clean lines, smooth finishes, mixed materials and minimalist aesthetics. Classic chic combines traditional forms with a contemporary take, and explore reflects global influences and natural elements.

Banana Republic follows in the footsteps of sister brand Gap, which launched a home goods line in 2021 with Walmart that includes furniture, bedding, bath, tabletop and decor items. And the line expanded in 2022 with the Gap Home Kids collection, which includes more than 200 pieces.

The BR Home collection is currently available online at brhome.com and will be in select stores in the United States, including two BR Home popups in New York City and Los Angeles, by the end of September.
