On July 14, SAG-AFTRA went on strike (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists). This came just months after the WGA (Writers Guild of America) went on strike. Both guilds are striking over the current residual model for actors, fair working conditions and threats to their jobs over artificial intelligence. It marks the first time in 63 years that both unions are on strike at the same time.
Many prominent actors have begun taking to the streets for the strikes and rallies calling attention to the unfair labor practices by major Hollywood studios. In New York, SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher has led the charge at many rallies and events throughout the city.
In Los Angeles, A-list actors from Jane Fonda to Rosario Dawson have taken to the picket lines and podiums to bring attention to the issues with big studios. Actress Mandy Moore even handed out burritos to fellow striking actors at a rally. WWD takes a look at the big name stars who have joined the picket line.
