At Australian Fashion Week, an unscripted moment at Tamarama Beach ended up stealing the spotlight.
Sydney-based label Commas staged its spring presentation on Tuesday along the shoreline, sending models down a dramatic staircase and across the sand in a setting designed to merge coastal ease with tailored resortwear. But as the show unfolded, a local swimmer inadvertently entered the frame. Without realizing he was breaking into a fashion show, the man descended the same steps, stretched nearby and headed straight into the ocean just meters from the runway.
Footage captured by attendees quickly circulated on TikTok, where the scene went viral.

Australian morning program “Today” identified the swimmer as David Handley, a longtime local who has frequented Tamarama Beach daily for decades. Speaking to the program, he explained that he initially assumed event staff would redirect him if access was restricted.
“I saw the setup, but I thought someone would be managing the stairs if the show was in progress,” he said in the interview. “By the time I realized what was happening, I’d already walked right into it.”
Commas, meanwhile, presented a spring 2026 collection featuring beach-appropriate ensembles, graphic T-shirts, unbuttoned shirts, belted trenches for wind protection, rugby shirts and wider-cut workman pants.
