Rubin&Chapelle will soon open a Los Angeles boutique in Melrose Hill.
Designers Sonja Rubin and Kip Chapelle — who founded the label in New York City in 1997 — unveil their second California location, following Newport Beach, in one of L.A.’s most vibrant emerging areas. Surrounded by art galleries and trendy restaurants, the space embodies Rubin&Chapelle’s ongoing dialogue between fashion, architecture and art.
“California is a major market for us, and opening two locations here is a direct response to strong West Coast demand. Our California clients have been engaged for years, and this felt like the right time to offer another dedicated physical space where they can experience our designs,” the duo said in an exclusive statement to WWD.

Located at 560 North Western Avenue, the new 4,000-square-foot boutique draws inspiration from their New York studio in Chelsea, fusing industrial elements with artistic warmth and showcasing steel fixtures, a wooden ceiling and glass facade. Beyond retail, the store also serves as a platform for R&C Projects, the brand’s art initiative that invites contemporary artists to collaborate and exhibit.
Opening on Saturday, the boutique will feature Konrad Fischer’s newest project with works by Aura Rosenberg, Anna Ostoya, Tamar Halpern and Wolfgang Stiller.
In terms of collections inside, it’s a mix of fluid silk cuts and sculptural silhouettes, with ready-to-wear, tailored outerwear and seasonal capsules, along with limited-edition designs inspired by artists and a capsule menswear line. The store also offers private fittings for a personalized experience.
Rubin&Chapelle, which also operates a store on New York’s Madison Avenue, continues to expand its brick-and-mortar presence with a focus on “intentional and intimate” spaces, the duo said: “Physical stores remain essential to us. They allow us to engage deeply with longtime clients and welcome new ones in a personal, tactile way. Many of our pieces, particularly those with intricate construction, specialty fabrics, and sculptural silhouettes, are best experienced in person, where the make and feel can be appreciated.”
Looking ahead, they added, “We are considering selective locations outside the United States, informed by the international client response we see in both New York and California. For international growth, we are looking to partner with retailers abroad who share a sensibility for subtle luxury and for creating spaces where clients love to return again and again. We are also seeking partnerships and collaborations in both menswear and accessories, two areas where we see opportunity.”
