G-Star has new creative talent to help elevate its collections.
On Tuesday, the Amsterdam-based brand announced the appointment of Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh as creative directors for its premium collections. Botter and Herrebrugh are the design team behind Botter, a men’s wear brand known for fusing Dutch tailoring with rich elements of Caribbean culture.
G-Star says the design duo brings a progressive outlook that aligns with its legacy and denim DNA. The designers will lead the brand’s Raw Research label, a line that “challenges conventions, pushes boundaries, and where bold ideas are transformed into designs.” They are tasked with bringing a forward-thinking perspective on denim while influencing both men’s and women’s collections.
Gwenda van Vliet, G-Star chief brand officer, said the designers’ contemporary thinking and respect for G-Star’s design integrity make them the ideal partners to help guide the collection forward. “We believe this is the perfect match, both creatively and culturally, and we are excited about the journey ahead,” she said.
Their first collection will debut in January 2026. However, a preview will be revealed in June.
“We’re happy to join a brand that shares our values of innovation, sustainability, and craftsmanship. We look forward to working together to explore new possibilities for G-Star,” Lisi Herrebrugh said in a statement.
The Botter duo follows in the footsteps of past G-Star collaborators such as Pharrell Williams, Aitor Throup and Marc Newson. Rushemy Botter was mentored by Walter Van Beirendonck, the “Antwerp Six” designer that G-Star recently collaborated with on a collection of garments made with minimal stitching.
“I have great memories of G-Star from the late ’90s. The designs, the styles I wore, and the influence the brand had on denim culture. It’s an exciting opportunity to now be part of this next chapter,” Botter said.
