Cowboy Accessories, Double Denim and Rosettes are Top Summer Trends

Just a few weeks into summer, new trends are already emerging.

Denim tuxedos are in hot demand, according to Boohoo. The online fashion retailer reported that searches for “double denim outfit” have skyrocketed by 1,884 percent in the U.S. during a 90-day period. The trend is gaining momentum on social media. Boohoo said TikTokers using the hashtag #denimondenimoutfit have generated 9.9 million views showcasing their all-denim looks.

Consumers are updating their head-to-denim outfits for rising temperatures, however. Searches for denim sandals are up 23 percent compared to last year, Trendalytics reported.

Interest in denim shorts is also climbing. Searches for oversized denim shorts are up 51 percent year-over-year as a “street style favorite for both men and women as seen at Milan Fashion Week,” the trend intelligence platform said. Consumers are also looking to inject some dopamine-inducing color. Searches for colored denim shorts are up 348 percent compared to last year.

Indeed, everything is coming up rosy.

Nostalgia for the 25th anniversary of “Sex and the City” in June renewed attention on Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe, including one of her signature accessories: the rosette. A souped-up version by Christian Siriano even appears front and center in the campaign for the second season of the SATC spin-off “And Just Like That.”

Rosettes and other 3D flowers have been a “fan-favorite” on the Fall/Winter 23-24 runway, Trendalytics said. Colin Locascio covered cartoon-like blooms in colorful sequins. Prada decorated its predominately gray collection with white petals and Zimmerman opted for giant floppy flower brooches on velvet blazers and tunic dresses.

Floral trends are inspiring color palettes as well. Rosy hues like pink, magenta and red are saturating the market with extreme search volumes, Trendalytics said.

As brands and retailers roll out their merchandise for the July 21 release of the hotly anticipated “Barbie” movie starring Margot Robbie, bubblegum pink continues to get a boost. Searches for the ultra-girly hue are up 122 percent compared to last year, making it a safe bet, Trendalytics said.

Other colors are gaining momentum, however. Searches for fiery orange are up 384 percent compared to last year, Trendalytics reported. Ice blue and lavender are also seeing gains, perhaps driven by the pearlescent and watery effects that are a must for mermaidcore.

While fashion cores have lost some of their influence this summer compared to last, the Western aesthetic lives on through accessories.

Cowboy hats have become a must-have for summer concerts, especially for Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” and Harry Styles’ “Love on Tour.”  Boohoo said Styles’ fans “have made it a considerable part of their experience when attending his tours to wear cowboy hats and feather boas.”

The retailer also revealed that online interest in “cowboy boots” has increased by 126 percent over the past three months. Buzz for the boots has also flooded TikTok, with the #cowboyboots hashtag blowing past 873 million views.

Though red, pink, white and black boots are leading the trend, Trendalytics noted that searches for silver cowboy boots are up 276 percent.

Silver, in general, has star power this summer. The futuristic metallic plays a significant role in Beyoncé’s “Renaissance World Tour” stage and costume lineup. Style search platform Syte said it has seen a 138 percent year-over-year increase in searches containing “silver” since the tour kicked off on May 10.

Sales for metallic jumpsuits are up 372.7 percent and silver bodysuit sales are up 303 percent, the platform reported.
