Orta Explores Sensory Luxury and Resilient Design

Orta is seeking to balance authenticity, performance and sensory richness for Fall/Winter 2027-2028.

It’s a tall order for the Turkish denim mill, but one that Sebla Onder, Orta marketing and sustainability manager, said the mill will achieve through strategic fiber curation, focusing on cotton for strength and regenerated cellulosic for softness and fluidity.

“Cotton remains at the core of the collection, especially with its regenerative and organic versions. We are also increasing our focus on cellulosic blends, particularly Tencel lyocell, to enhance drape, softness, and a more refined surface appearance,” she said.

Another important development is the introduction of cashmere wool blends, bringing a new level of tactile luxury to denim, offering natural warmth and softness supporting a more elevated and sensory experience.

The ingredients are key to Orta’s mission to transform denim into a refined yet versatile fabric for the season.

“We see the denim market moving in a direction that balances comfort, expression, and intention. On one hand, there is a clear shift toward relaxed and sculptural silhouettes like wide-leg, barrel shapes, and softer, more fluid constructions that prioritize movement and ease,” Onder said. “At the same time, more refined and timeless cuts are gaining importance, showing a move away from short-lived trends toward longevity and versatility. There is also a strong emphasis on tactility and surface richness, from textured finishes and effects to washed, lived-in appearances that bring depth and character to denim.”

The F/W 27-28 collection pulls style cues from architecture and interior design, viewing denim not just as a garment, “but as a space designed for how we live, move, and express ourselves,” she explained.

“There is a duality in design expression of the collection: a desire for clarity and restraint, alongside a need for richness and emotional expression.”

The Art of Essence group focuses on durability, clean constructions, authentic character and long-lasting fabrics. In The Art of Abundance, Orta explore expression through texture, color and tactility; from rich, layered tones to soft, immersive materials and statement surfaces.

“As a more emotional and atmospheric landscape we are introducing a new deep color range inspired from a well curated wine cellar: rich brown and burgundy shades creating a sense of warmth and protection,” Onder said.

The mill is also expanding its range of finishes, offering shiny luxurious finishes and overdyes to add depth and complexity to designs.

It’s an artful and inspiring exploration of denim—offering a refreshing counterpoint to the uncertainty currently weighing on the denim industry. “What once felt unstable is no longer temporary; it has become a condition to navigate. As a result, we see a stronger focus on resilience, adaptability, and self-definition,” Onder said.

As a result, she noted that there’s a growing need to “hold onto what is real,” to protect identity and to stay grounded in a constantly shifting environment. “Ultimately, the new season will be all about survival with intention; not just enduring, but actively adapting, building strategies, and moving forward with resilience and purpose,” she said.
