Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Sneaker in Summit White/Light Smoke Grey/Smoke Grey/Metallic Silver
Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Sneaker in Summit White/Light Smoke Grey/Smoke Grey/Metallic Silver
Rapper extraordinaire Eve was spotted in New York City yesterday donning a cool-girl getup that was nothing short of head-turning: backed by Levi’s x Sacai denim coordinates and a croc-embossed handbag from The Attico. The ultimate star of her ‘fit though? Nike’s Zoom Vomero 5 sneaker, whose nostalgic, Y2K energy couldn’t be a better choice for the Y2K-era recording artist.
Eve’s Zoom Vomero 5 featured one key element that was hard to turn away from — a metallic Swoosh overlay on the upper, which elevated its other silver accents to shiny new heights. No matter if you wear them with oversized denim jackets and skirts, summery dresses, or your best athleisure, silver sneakers are all the rage now: fueled by Nike drops slated for the next few months, like the Air Max Muse in Black/Metallic Silver and the Air Jordan 5 “Wings,” as well as the world’s biggest athletes, Caitlin Clark included, who regularly debut custom, mirror-like kicks on court. This seems to be a more athletic extension of the penchant for all things metallic witnessed on red carpets as of late, taking the form of sleek slingback heels and height-happy platform pumps. In other words, we’re all crazy over this futuristic nod to the early aughts, when silvery finishes and bright neon hues went hand in hand, chainmail dresses were embraced by the likes of Paris Hilton, and metallic matching sets were completely acceptable things to wear to awards shows.
The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 makes it easy to channel this early-2000s vibe in a measured and style-savvy way. The brand’s Vomero series (which went absolutely viral a few months ago when Kendrick Lamar was seen in the Nike Zoom Vomero Roam women’s winterized shoe), prides itself on fusing high-achieving functionality with comfort and retro-inspired silhouettes. Not insignificant is the fact that Nike is planning on expanding this highly successful and lucrative line in late summer and fall, with the Vomero Plus and Vomero Premium that will feature unforeseen levels of cushioning sure to please all runners. But while the Premium and Plus additions are performance-based models through and through, the Zoom Vomero 5 is made with street style in mind.
Originally launched in 2010 as a running shoe, Nike decided to re-release the Zoom Vomero 5 as a more lifestyle-leaning offering circa 2022, when the renewed fervor for Y2K footwear first started reaching a fever pitch. To be sure, Nike still kept many of the shoe’s original, well-loved elements intact (like the impressive Air Zoom cushioning that absorbs impact while being highly responsive to all your daily movements and plastic caging for enhanced stability). When it was first put on the market after the hiatus, the Zoom Vomero 5 also featured muted, go-with-everything colorways and “Bowerman Series” branding as an homage to Nike’s co-founder Bill Bowerman. In the present day, every new iteration of the Zoom Vomero 5 — from eye-catching options in deep blue to butter yellow–adjacent styles — is immediately obsessed over, with most fresh arrivals selling out at the speed of light.
The Nike Zoom Vomero 5’s popularity hasn’t reached the levels of the omnipotent Cortez yet, likely because it’s a relatively recent reintroduction into the company’s extensive portfolio. But the shoe’s word-of-mouth popularity spread makes it feel like a secret style weapon on the verge of being discovered by everyone, with Eve’s covetable, Zoom Vomero 5–powered look yesterday being proof of its alignment with all the latest fashion trends. In that, it’s comparable to the Nike P-6000 — another retro-inspired runner that fits the “dad shoe” aesthetic and says a firm “yes” to metallics with its silver-toned toe cap and heel, as well as the shiny stripe overlays sitting on top of its mesh upper — but introduces even more materials (like the aforementioned plastic caging) into the mix.
When WWD’s commerce director Adam Mansuroglu tested out the Nike Zoom Vomero 5, he was pleasantly surprised by its roomy toe box as compared to other bestselling Nike styles. Mansuroglu also made sure to note that the sneaker’s solid heel counter doles out impressive stability in stride and its Zoom midsole grants a “just right” amount of cushioning for daily wear without making the shoe feel heavy on your foot. Another win? The Zoom Vomero 5 runs true to size, so you can get straight to enjoying its richly layered look, mesh panel–based breathability, and all-day comfort.
Eve is joined by a host of celebrities who have given a seal of approval to what just might be the next “It” sneaker, including LeBron James, Jasmine Tookes, and Lucy Hale. Shay Mitchell, too, showed off her love for the Vomero line with the very same Zoom Vomero Roam winterized variation donned by Lamar earlier, styling the versatile sneaker made for all seasons with a white minidress and a cowboy hat.
While the exact colorway of Eve’s Nike Zoom Vomero 5 shoe just sold out across all women’s sizes, its alternative under the men’s category is still fully stocked, and the Vast Grey/Platinum Violet/Taupe Grey/Metallic Silver style can function as a close second (as long as you’re okay with a touch of purple, which was a major trend spotted on spring 2025 runways). Whatever Zoom Vomero 5 you end up investing in — whether it’s a light-hued take that’s one of the best white sneakers for women today or a version that outlines the Swoosh logo in neon pink, another Y2K fascination — there’s never been a better time to level up your shoe rotation with this chunky stepper.
