Last fall, Nike announced a streamlined running lineup to make its shoes’ purpose more readily identifiable. The Pegasus franchise offers responsive cushioning and has been filled out with the Pegasus 41, Pegasus Plus and Pegasus Premium offering better tech with increasing price points. The Structure 26 will launch next month with a focus on stability, and now the Swoosh is filling out its max cushioning department with the Vomero Plus and Vomero Premium following the release of the Vomero 18 in the fall.

Even higher levels of cushioning will define the Vomero Plus and Vomero Premium as they release in August and October respectively. Both shoes make use of full-length ZoomX foam, and the Vomero premium adds Air Zoom units at the forefoot and heel for even more responsiveness.

Nike is referring to the Vomero Premium as the “ultimate” recovery shoe, and Faith Kipyogen employed it while training for her attempt this week at becoming the first woman to run a mile in under 4 minutes.

“The Vomero Premium is a key part of my training journey to break the 4-minute mile,” Kipyegon said in a press release. “It’s so soft, cushioned and comfortable, and it helps me train harder with less impact to allow me to recover faster and stay focused on my goal.”

At 55mm, the Vomero Premium boasts the highest stack of any Nike running shoe. The shoe offers 85 percent energy return with each step, and its Air Zoom units are exposed to allow more room for expansion and contraction.

“Anti-gravity treadmills supplement an athlete’s body weight so they can run with less impact, which our athletes tell us means more miles with less recovery time,” said Ashley Campbell, Expert Product Line manager for Nike Running. “The Vomero Premium aims to provide a high amount of impact reduction and a similar sensation to the anti-gravity treadmill experience. As we do at Nike, we really pushed the boundaries of what was possible for this shoe through Air experimentation and learnings from our racing and max cushioning product.”

Made with insights from the popular Invincible 3, the Vomero Plus comes in with 45mm of stack height. Increased rocker geometry and a wider platform define the midsole, while the upper makes use of an engineered mesh with comfort targeted at the collar and tongue.

“The Vomero Plus is a great introductory shoe for a smooth, responsive and well-cushioned ride at a wide range of paces,” Olympic silver medalist Jess Hull said. “It gives new runners the ability to run anywhere at any time without concern for firm surfaces or high impact on the body.”

The Nike Vomero Plus will release August 7 through Nike’s website and select third-party retailers, with the Vomero Premium following October 2 through select retailers and October 16 globally. Pricing for the two models haven’t been formally announced, but leaks suggest the Vomero Plus will retail for $210.
