A lot of “f” words come to mind when thinking about The Blonds’ latest runway show, designed by partners Phillipe and David Blond. Flashy, fierce, fun, to name a few. How about fashion? Well, their fall show certainly made an impact and had guests entertained and engaged, eliciting cheers at one over-embellished corset after the next. If the front row of glittered and glammed-up patrons were any indication, it was a roaring success.
The designers have become known as specialists in over-the-top stage costumes. They’ve outfitted Madonna, Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus and many, many more. For fall, they looked to the upcoming film “The Mummy,” about an ancient princess whose destiny is unjustly thwarted and is fearless in her search for vengeance. Their take on the inspiration was that of flashy opulence. They also presented plenty of house signatures — pearl-adorned corsets, crystal-embellished bodysuits, skintight minidresses, along with a lot of other feathered and sequined excess. Alongside these, there were more “casual” off-stage pieces like an oversize jacket in denim, ombré ostrich feathers and pearls; jeans in the same combination; and a head-to-toe sheer look of black-lace shirting and slacks. When the last model walked off stage, Phillipe himself appeared as a mummy in full drag and a showstopping over-decorated catsuit. It was the perfect finale outfit that would suit your favorite diva of any gender or identity.
