Nicole Miller felt inspired after coming across a painting of a forest. “But I wanted to go a little deeper, so I got into this idea of mythic arts, symbols and illustrations,” she said. It wasn’t an enchanted forest she was channeling, she clarified, but rather something darker and more mysterious.
The concept came together in a flirty lineup of dresses and separates featuring plenty to wear for the girl who’s not afraid of embellishment — feathered hemlines, floral appliqués, metallic beads and fringe, and plenty of it — as well as playful multicolored fox-fur and leopard-print mohair coats. Outdoorsy prints, some featuring animals, underscored the forest theme quite literally.
With models backstage traipsing the floor in heavily shredded metallic stockings, one wondered if there might also be a grunge reference at play. Miller shrugged it off thusly: “Well, I guess if you’re in the woods, you’d get caught on thorns, right?”
