Boy Smells and Bratz teamed up for a new collaboration inspired by the Y2K fashion dolls, which released on the fine fragrance brand’s official website on Tuesday.
With the brands’ collaboration, Boy Smells and Bratz crafted the world’s first doll skin musk. The hair and body mist features notes of floral scents, including fresh orchids, strawberries and a powdery plastique accord.

“As a millennial gay from a small town, I never had dolls growing up. But I still remember the sweet plasticky scent when someone else opened their box,” Zach Weal, vice president of merchandising and sales told WWD in a statement.
“It wasn’t just the doll, it was the whole experience. This fragrance passes on the feeling. Now, anyone can open the box. Doll Skin is our interpretation of the skin scent trend, but elevated with a surrealist, high-gloss twist. It’s a true floral fantasy. Think orchids, strawberry and powdy plastique accord. At Boy Smells, we continue to approach every scent with a bit of a wink to the industry at large. We’ll always be a playful escape for the gays and the girls,” Weal said.
With the rise in Y2K nostalgia, Bratz has been having a moment, serving as a key collaborator for several brands. In July, the early 2000s doll brand collaborated with swimwear label Blackbough on a 29-piece collection.
Bratz has also collaborated with such labels as Urban Sophistication and Jean Paul Gaultier, among others. The contemporary rise of Bratz can be charted back to 2022, when the fashion doll saw a resurgence on TikTok and other social media platforms.
“The fans have grown up and are now doing the things they dreamt of doing through the dolls,” Jasmin Larian, Cult Gaia founder and daughter of Isaac Larian, the founder and chief executive officer of MGA Entertainment, the manufacturer of Bratz, told WWD in 2022. “[Bratz] reinforced imagination and passion for fashion, creativity, going against the grain, being out of the box — almost like renegades. It was the voice of a generation that now can act on who they are and be in the world based on what the Bratz dolls inspired them to be.”
