The natural beauty movement is no more. Instead, statement-making makeup is dominating outside the MTV Video Music Awards in New York, with major internet stars and celebrities sporting an array of eclectic aesthetics. Hair trends are all over the place, too, resurrecting styles from decades past.

Doja Cat experimented with the bouncy blowout, while Haley Kalil took a 1980s approach with crimped hair. Taylor Momsen poured her persona into her beauty for the annual awards show, stamping black shadow over her eyes and dressing her lips in a matte nude shade. Brianna Mazzola, on the other hand, opted for an abstract visage, tracing the shape of a frequency wave across her cheekbones and nose.
