Cate Blanchett put an edgy twist on red carpet dressing at the New York City premiere of her latest film, “Black Bag.” She suited up in leather for the event, wearing a Givenchy look that debuted on the runway two days earlier.
Blanchett arrived at the premiere in a leather ensemble that featured a plunging neckline with zipper trim, exaggerated sleeves, and a sharply defined waist. Her look hailed from Givenchy’s fall 2025 collection, which was shown on Friday, March 7. Blanchett paired the leather look, which was styled by Elizabeth Stewart, with a pair of square-toe patent leather boots, a statement ring, and a pair of spiked stud earrings.
Givenchy‘s fall 2025 collection was a celebration of silhouette with designer Sarah Burton dialing up the volume with draping and pattern making. “Back to silhouette. This is the backbone of the house today,” Burton told WWD, while referencing Hubert de Givenchy’s first collection from 1952. “It’s about silhouette and cut, because the ateliers are amazing here.”

“The overall feeling I wanted was very, very stripped back to just the silhouette — almost like a fetishization of each object,” Burton added of the collection. “It’s not overly styled so there’s a purity to it, which I think is what I liked about [Hubert de Givenchy’s] first collection.”
Blanchett has blazed her own lane on the red carpet throughout her career, whether with her unique choices or her frequent decisions to rewear them. At this year’s Golden Globes, for instance, Blanchett stepped out in a gold beaded Louis Vuitton gown she first wore months earlier at Cannes for the premiere of her film “Rumours.” For the Golden Globes, Blanchett and Stewart had the gown slightly reworked with the addition of crystals at the shoulders and neckline.
Blanchett also repurposed an Armani gown that she wore initially to the 2014 Golden Globes, later stepping out in it again at the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
“Black Bag,” a spy thriller from Steven Soderbergh, also stars Michael Fassbender, Naomie Harris, Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, and Pierce Brosnan. The film hits theaters Friday, March 14.
