Cate Blanchett favored runway style inspiration with her Maison Margiela look at the BFI Fellowship celebration for Guillermo Del Toro on Wednesday night in London.
Doused in Gothic style inspiration, the look came from the French luxury fashion house’s fall 2026 ready-to-wear collection. The piece featured a hint of tailoring and suited styling, with a dark suit-style, long-sleeve jacket worn beneath a thin, sheer layer of black fabric.
A sheer skirt gave the ensemble movement, while the bodice of the piece included intricate lace detailing throughout. A bare V-shaped neckline could also be seen beneath the sheer fabric of the bodice. Feminine elements like ruffles were also added for some sartorial juxtaposition.

A past collaborator of filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, having appeared in 2021’s “Nightmare Alley” and 2022’s “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” Blanchett’s dark attire may have been a nod to the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s penchant for and love of the horror genre.
Accessories were minimal for the two-time Oscar-winner, who favored a pair of simple silver earrings and an animal-inspired statement ring. As for glam, Blanchett’s blond bob was styled with a side part and her makeup included lined eyes and soft tones.

“Flowy pleated dresses broke up the austere lineup, while tailored stretchy jersey, some sheer, some stiffened as to sculpt the body, played with Martin Margiela’s love of ‘the second skin.'”
