MILAN — The Judd Foundation, which maintains and preserves Donald Judd’s legacy and permanently installed living and working spaces, libraries and archives in New York and Marfa, Texas, has entered a new phase.
On Friday, the foundation told WWD that Alexandra Cunningham Cameron has been named director of design. Cunningham Cameron has extensive curatorial experience through her work in contemporary design at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and Design Miami.
The newly created role oversees Judd Furniture, which is controlled by the foundation and carries on Judd’s vision. The famed artist first designed furniture in 1970 fabricated in wood and stainless steel. He later designed furniture in folded sheet metal in 1984 and integrated new materials of plywood and metal frame as materials from 1990 to 1992.

The foundation continues his vision by promoting and providing access to these spaces and resources and by developing scholarly and educational programs. Judd, who was famous for his minimalist post-war era art and use of Pop Art colors, passed away in 1994.
Most recently, Cunningham Cameron was tapped as the guest editor of Cultured Magazine’s first volume of Cultured at Home.
Flavin Judd, the Judd Foundation’s artistic director and son of Donald, is known for his own work as a designer. In 2020, he designed the interiors of the Repossi store in Monaco. He told WWD that Cunningham Cameron’s appointment was key to writing the next chapter of the foundation. “Alexandra brings knowledge and experience to a small organization that does very big things. We are excited to bring more of Don’s furniture to the world. This will include initiatives and collaborations in the coming years,” he said. Flavin runs the foundation with his sister Rainer, who serves as president.
In February, the Judd Foundation resonated in the fashion world for a collaboration with Saint Laurent for the Rive Droite flagship in Paris and its new interior concept.
Throughout, the pristine, geometric furniture by the late American artist was imbued with Anthony Vaccarello‘s approach to the fashions he designs for Saint Laurent.
