The Slim Shoe Trend Comes to Cannes With Simone Ashley’s Toteme Slingbacks

The shoes contrasted her white dress and trenchcoat from Toteme.

Simone Ashley hit the Croisette on Wednesday during the 79th annual Cannes Film Festival in the South of France, and she brought the enduring slim shoe trend with her. The actress modeled a unique hybrid twist on the footwear trend with a style from Toteme.

Ashley showcased the black slingback satin Mary Janes from the brand, a silhouette that plays into the flat slingback movement and the prevalence of Mary Janes and ballet flats. The style features a rounded low-cut vamp, slender buckled strap for the defining Mary Jane feature, and a striking thick slingback strap that leaves more of the foot exposed than the classic Mary Jane. It’s also an ultra slender style, fitting in with the low-profile trend that has brought the sneaker and ballet worlds closer together lately with the prominence of sneakerinas.

Ashley’s shoe style, retailing for $620, served as a dark counterpoint to her otherwise all-white Toteme look. She wore the brand’s white crinkled knit tank dress, featuring a scoop neck and knee-length hemline, under the off-white draped satin trench, an ankle-length piece from the spring 2026 runway. Her accessories included Lanvin cat-eye sunglasses and a black leather bag from Tod’s. All around, Ashley’s look embodied the coastal energy associated with the film festival.
