Coco Gauff is gearing up for the 2025 U.S. Open with her New Balance CG2 sneakers on foot.
The 21-year-old tennis star practiced her game at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Wednesday, wearing her second signature shoe by New Balance, a brand she’s been signed with since 2018.
Following the 2021 release of the Coco CG1, the Coco CG2 came out almost exactly a year ago on Aug. 21, 2024. The shoe is influenced by the 550s, a favorite style of Gauff’s, replacing the basketball on the woven tongue label with a tennis ball. Diamond knit mesh on the collar, heel and tongue and an Ndure toe cap featuring a triangular pattern provide a geometric-shaped design, stability and flexibility, paying homage to the architecture of Paris, Gauff’s favorite city.
Going for a versatile on and off-court appeal, the sneaker also features suede overlays on the saddle. A duel-density Fuel midsole fashioned with a carbon fiber plate helps with comfort, stability and the feeling of energy return.

Gauff, who earned her second Grand Slam title in June at the French Open, showcased a tonal green colorway of the CG2 called Melon Water with New Spruce and Gum. The shoe retails for $159.99 from New Balance.
Gauff’s partnership with New Balance has overlapped with luxury fashion as well. She is serving as the face of a New Balance x Miu Miu tennis apparel line, which is set for release on Sept. 10. The brands designed custom co-branded kits for her to wear while playing in Rome, Berlin and Cincinnati this year. She’s sported co-branded sneakers by the two brands in recent times as well, including a reinterpretation of the CG2 and the 530 SL sneaker.
Her relationship with the two brands has made its way to late-night television as well; she went on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” with the New Balance Abzorb 2000 sneakers and triple-strap Miu Miu heels on hand.
Ahead of the big tournament, Gauff recently departed from coach Matthew Daly and hired biomechanics specialist Gavin MacMillan. This year will mark her seventh appearance at the U.S. Open and two years since she won the tournament in 2023, which was her first Grand Slam title.
