NEW YORK — Lights. Camera. Reality TV show?
Responding to a WWD report published on Tuesday that Warren-Tricomi salons may be the setting for a reality TV show, hairstylist Edward Tricomi said he and his business partner, Joel Warren, are simply filming a documentary. He would not divulge if the effort was intended as a docudrama for the small screen, and said that his salons also have recently hosted camera crews from VH1 and MTV.
Staff at Warren-Tricomi’s 16 West 57th Street location here had a different account of why camera crews and a gaggle of models had infiltrated the salon last weekend. Away from the cameras, several stylists said that cameramen were on hand to film the pilot episode for a “Blow Out”-style, reality TV show, which would feature the 57th Street salon and its newly opened Los Angeles unit.
They pointed to Warren-Tricomi’s new hire, Brandon Martinez, as evidence of the salon’s Hollywood ambitions.
Martinez earned his reality-TV stripes on the first season of Bravo’s “Blow Out,” a “docu-series” starring Hollywood hairstylist Jonathan Antin.
Since his television debut, Antin has leveraged his reality-TV stardom into a multimillion-dollar hair care business called Jonathan Product, which is currently sold in Sephora, Bath & Body Works and Barneys New York.
Like Antin, Warren-Tricomi also introduced a namesake hair care line last year, which is currently sold in Bath & Body Works and C.O. Bigelow stores.
Bravo publicist Nora Grudman said that the NBC-owned network is not affiliated with the Warren-Tricomi venture and has no plans to create a “Blow Out” spin-off. The network is currently gearing up for the third season of “Blow Out,” which is slated to premiere March 21. The upcoming season chronicles Antin backstage at New York Fashion Week, mingling with celebrity clients and tackling fatherhood.
