GOING, GOING, GONE: The most recent edition of Charlie Hebdo, the first since the terrorist attacks last Wednesday that left 12 dead at the Paris-based satirical magazine, ran out minutes after hitting newsstands in France this morning.
Some 500,000 issues were scheduled to go on sale today and another 500,000 tomorrow.
However, due to the steep demand, the print run has been raised to 5 million copies worldwide from the prior 3 million. Originally the issue — which features a cartoon of Muhammad shedding a tear and holding up a sign saying “Je Suis Charlie” (“I Am Charlie”) on the cover — was meant to come out with 1 million copies, substantially larger than Charlie Hebdo’s habitual 60,000.
