LONDON – Europe’s stock markets put on an uneven show in mid-morning trading on Tuesday, while retail and luxury stocks also seesawed.
The FTSE MIB in Milan was the only market to gain substantial ground, climbing 0.3 percent to 19,112.91, followed by the FTSE 100 in London, 0.1 percent to 7,282.76. The CAC 40 in Paris was broadly flat at 4,889.50 while the DAX in Frankfurt eased 0.1 percent to 11,767.90.
The euro traded at $1.06, while the pound fetched $1.25 and the Swiss franc equaled $1.00 at 11:50 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks put on an uneven show, with the morning’s biggest gainers including Joules Group, 1.3 percent to 2.19 pounds; Italia Independent Group, 1.9 percent to 4.30 euros; and Geox, 1.4 percent to 2.02 euros.
Among the stocks to lose the most ground were Hugo Boss, down 1 percent to 59.68 euros; Gemfields, 1.1 percent to 0.49 pounds; and Ted Baker, 1.1 percent to 28.31 pounds.
