The upcoming Gel-Kayano 33 isn’t the only Asics running sneaker of note that the brand will be bringing to market next month.
For runners seeking a more budget-friendly alternative, the Asics GT-1000 15 offers some of the Japanese sportswear brand’s top technology at a fraction of the price. According to Asics, its intention with the GT-1000 15 was to modernize the model with a new engineered mesh upper that cradles the foot comfortably and also offers breathability. The nearly one-piece design allows the shoe to be supportive in the areas where it’s most needed without adding unnecessary overlays.

Like its GT-1000 14 predecessor, the GT-1000 15 makes use of FF Blast foam cushioning, which is then paired with the brand’s PureGel cushioning in the heel. According to Asics, PureGel is 65 percent softer than the standard Gel technology found on many of its retro lifestyle shoes.
The GT-1000 15 also retains the 3D Guidance System stability setup and Asics High Abrasion Rubber (AHAR) Lo outsole material, but adds AHAR Plus rubber at the heel for increased durability. Asics says the AHAR Plus is approximately three times more durable than typical outsole rubber.
While the GT-1000 used a Hybrid Max Lite sockliner, the GT-1000 15 features an OrthoLite-branded sockliner for added cushioning.
At 278 grams, the GT-1000 15 is slightly heavier than the GT-1000 14, which weighed 230 grams. Both shoes feature 8 millimeter heel drops and are intended for running on road surfaces.
The new running model will debut in six colorways: Black/Black, Black/White, Black/Illuminate Yellow, Piedmont Gray/Neon Blue, White/Stadium Orange and Prussian Blue/White.
The Asics GT-1000 25 is available now for preorder from asics.com for a retail price of $115. Orders are expected to begin shipping June 1.
