Spanx Debuts Jeans With Lycra’s FitSense Technology

Spanx’s new collection sculpts the wearer in denim.

On Tuesday, the brand unveiled the first-to-market SPANXsculpt ReDefine Denim collection. The jeans have targeted sculpting zones that provide tummy control, thigh shaping and butt-lifting qualities, through The Lycra Company’s FitSense technology.

Pascale Gueracague, Spanx chief design officer, said the technology allows Spanx to address some of the most common frustrations women face with denim: fit, comfort and shape retention.

“Traditional jeans often fall short when offering support in the areas women care about most. Lycra FitSense technology enables us to integrate heat-activated zones into the fabric, providing targeted sculpting without adding bulk or stiffness,” he said. “This means women get the smoothing and shaping they want and the comfort and flexibility they need for all-day wear. It’s a solution-focused approach to denim design that doesn’t compromise on comfort or style. The end result is an effortless and empowering design.”

Lycra introduced the game-changing shaping technology to the denim market last April. A combination of a new yarn and garment processing technology, FitSense allows brands to customize jeans with targeted compression shaping in certain areas without sacrificing comfort or changing the authentic look and feel of denim. The technology is discreet and invisible on the fabric and garment.

The patented technology is a dual-core structure that wraps Lycra fiber with temperature-responsive fiber. The yarn goes in the weft throughout the entire garment. After garment making and dry and wet processing, manufacturers apply silicone pads to targeted zones on the garment and use a heat press to activate or lock-in shaping power in the desired areas. Activated areas will have lower growth due to the memory set.

The fabric used in the SPANXsculpt ReDefine Denim collections incorporates less than 8 percent temperature-responsive Lycra FitSense fibers and premium cotton Lycra fiber.

“After nearly 18 months of product development, from fabric and garment processing to wear tests, we are thrilled to have Spanx be first to market with this innovation. Lycra FitSense denim technology is a true game-changer, redefining consumer expectations for denim by delivering targeted shaping that’s virtually invisible,” said Ebru Ozaydin, The Lycra Company global product director, denim, wovens and RTW.

Ozaydin said the collaboration with Spanx demonstrates how companies can elevate the wearing experience for denim consumers with a sophisticated innovation that pushes boundaries, including beyond jeans to include non-denim wovens.

“Spanx has set the standard as a leader in shaping, so we truly value their unmatched expertise in innovative design and appreciate their commitment, enthusiasm, and dedication to collaborate on this offering. We joined forces with them to better understand the denim consumer’s pain points as we developed this next-gen ‘fit’ solution,” she said.

Gueracague said it’s important for consumers to not only experience the difference SPANXsculpt jeans offers but also understand what makes the technology so unique. “Through detailed product descriptions on our website and engaging CGI content across our social channels, we’ll showcase the innovation behind Lycra FitSense technology,” he said. “By highlighting how the targeted sculpting zones provide targeted compression exactly where it’s needed, we’re making the benefits clear and accessible. This transparent and approachable approach ensures women feel confident and inspired to make SPANXsculpt jeans a part of their wardrobes.”

The SPANXsculpt ReDefine Denim collection offers two styes—a flare and slim straight—in dark blue and mid-blue washes. Designed with a functional 5-pocket design, zip fly, and button closure, it also introduces numeric sizing (0-26), marking Spanx’s first-ever denim offering with both functional sizing and traditional denim detailing.
