Hudson Debuts Archival Collection, Resale Marketplace

Centric Brands-owned Hudson Jeans is the latest label to step into resale. The Los Angeles premium denim nameplate launched Re:Hudson, an online marketplace created for pre-loved Hudson styles.

The marketplace is managed by resale platform Treet, which has launched more than 150 retail programs with its turnkey service. Treet’s platform mirrors brands’ existing e-commerce sites so the shopping experience is seamless for users toggling between new and pre-worn garments.

To sell on Re:Hudson, consumers must upload several photos of their pre-owned Hudson garments and answer general questions about the item’s condition. They also set the selling price, though Hudson said resale items generally retail for $30-$150. Consumers submit the information for review before its posted to Hudon’s website.

After it’s sold, the seller receives a prepaid shipping label to ship it via email. The seller can opt for brand credit to use on Hudson’s website or receive a payout.

Re:Hudson currently offers items like women’s new barrel jeans with tags for $140, a zip-up shortall from 2018 for $128 and men’s twill cargo shorts for $80.

“Our team has been focused on producing high-quality styles that minimize their impact on the environment, and this is a creative way to offer new life to the brand’s previous collections, while also giving customers a way to pass on their preloved styles,” said Suzy Biszantz, group president, men’s and women’s, Centric Brands.

ThredUp estimates that the secondhand apparel market will reach $350 billion by 2028, and brands are increasingly taking part of the reselling of its apparel.

Rolla’s and Boyish both use Treet to power their online consignment stores. Levi’s worked with Trove to launch Levi’s SecondHand in 2020. Teen specialty retailer tapped ThredUp’s Resale-as-a-Service (RaaS) platform to set up Pre-Loved Pac, which allows shoppers to sell and scoop up pre-owned items.

Hudson is giving archival pieces a second chance as well. The brand simultaneously launched The Archive Collection, an online-only assortment of 12 men’s and women’s pieces form the early 2000s.

The one-of-one pieces include deconstructed Trucker jackets, a tie-dye blazer, patchwork skinny jeans, low-rise flare jeans, cutoff shorts and more.

“We have a gold mine of one-of-a-kind Hudson pieces that have been an inspiration to our team over the years,” said Peggi Jewell, VP division head of Hudson Jeans. “We felt it was time to share these treasures with Hudson’s customers so they can share in the brand’s history.”
