G-Star Raw’s towering 11-foot denim gorilla was more than a showpiece—it signaled the brand’s bold reawakening to the art of anatomy.
This week, the Dutch brand unveiled Anatomic Denim, a collection of jeans designed to “follow and enhance the body’s natural form.”
The collection is an evolution of G-Star’s focus on three-dimensionally constructed jeans. In 1996, the brand introduced the Elwood, a jean style designed by Pierre Morisset that was inspired by the way denim mold to motorcyclist’s body.
Anatomic Denim introduces two new fits that also reshape the way jeans are constructed.
The Contor is a futuristic take on the Arc—a style with asymmetric tapered legs and twisted side and inseams. The Contor boasts architectural lines and a sculpted fit using G-Star’s signature 3D construction. The new Kitoh features seams that trace musculature.
Both styles are available for men and women and come in relaxed and slim fits. The Contor is also available in a women’s wide leg.
“Anatomic Denim is the next step in G-Star’s denim evolution, designing not just for the body, but with it in mind. Merging our 3D legacy with art, science, and craftsmanship, we bring denim to life in a raw, expressive, unmistakably G-Star way,” said Gwenda van Vliet, G-Star’s chief brand officer.
Director and photographer Jordan Hemingway brings the collection to life in a campaign starring athletes from gymnastics, pole dancing, cycling and calisthenics, but with all their usual apparatus removed.
“From the very first call, I knew this one would be special,” Hemingway said. “G-tar is a brand with real heritage but what makes them exciting is their appetite for reinvention and boundary-pushing. This project was exhilarating in every sense, full of creative and technical challenges that demanded invention. Working closely with their team to solve them wasn’t just rewarding—it was a joy.”
The Anatomic Denim collection is available now on G-Star.com and at select retailers. Jeans retail for $180-$290.
