AGI Denim makes gallery-worthy denim.
This week, a fabric from the Karachi, Pakistan-based mill was showcased at MENART Fair Paris 2025. The denim was selected by artist Kevork Mourad as a fine arts material for his presentation at the fair—the only international art fair in Europe dedicated to modern and contemporary art from the Middle East and North Africa region.
Mourad chose a heavy weight cotton denim with dark pure indigo dye from the mill. The Syrian-Armenian artist, who was born in Qamishli and is based in New York, is known for exploring themes of memory, migration and the loss of cultural heritage.
“I use drawing, animation and fabric to create cities and architecture that no longer exist and live in our collective memory,” Mourad said. “I see art as a way to carry our world with us, to keep our histories alive.”
Gallery@ by AGI Denim, the art-supporting arm of AGI Denim, supplied a custom denim textile that Mourad has integrated as both medium and metaphor. AGI said the material is “rooted in craftsmanship and cultural exchange, reflecting the artist’s exploration of migration and belonging.”
Using a blend of technical expertise and creative vision, Gallery@ by AGI Denim has developed processes to transform denim into a medium suitable for fine art. The mill applies advanced finishing, weaving and stabilization techniques that turn denim into a fine-arts-compatible textile.
The result is a canvas capable of carrying emotional depth, material beauty, and archival quality, allowing works like Mourad’s to be both contemporary and timeless.
“Denim is an inherently global fabric, woven from shared histories, constant reinvention, and movement across borders,” said Henry Wong, VP of marketing and product development at AGI Denim and director of gallery@. “I love how the indigo in the denim adds an extra layer of depth and narrative texture to art. We are so proud that Kevork has selected us as a fine arts material supplier.”
Wong added that the artist is also working with AGI’s linen and cashmere indigo denim fabrics.
Previous gallery@ projects have included developing a custom Circulose denim canvas for Kiril Jeliazkov’s Lamborghini 60th Anniversary painting in partnership with Treun House Atelier and Automobili Lamborghini. The vertical denim manufacturer has also supported “Exquisite Blue Towers,” an exhibition of collaborative and individual artwork that celebrates indigo as a color by artists Holly E. Brown, Juan Manuel Gomez and Mauricio Arroyave.
