Tintoria Piana received Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification from research and testing company Hohenstein Laboratories for its bleached cotton and sulfur black cotton products.
The Cartersville, Ga.-facility run by Italy’s Piana Technology textile manufacturing giant focuses on chemically treating natural and recycled fibers. It targets applications in apparel, bedding, textiles, automotive, furniture and other sectors.
“Our cotton fibers are present in many close contact textiles, so our No. 1 priority is to make them completely safe to protect every user,” said Daniela Leal, Piana Technology’s sustainability manager. “We’re proud to demonstrate our dedication to this priority as we continue serving our customers.”
Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is an independent testing system that evaluates if a product contains harmful levels of chemicals, carried out by testing authorities such as Hohenstein. The Swiss certification company’s label guarantees that every product element has been “rigorously tested” against 350 toxic chemicals, signifying that it won’t harm human health.
For Tintoria Piana, bleached and sulfur black cotton offerings were subjected to the rigorous Oeko-Tex criteria.
Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is just the latest certification for the technology company. Piana Technology’s flame-resistant (FR)-treated fibers are UL Formaldehyde Free Validated and its Piana Sleep Topper and FR-treated fibers are GreenGuard Gold certified.
Additionally, in June, Piana Nonwovens received ISO14001 certifications for its Environmental Management System (EMS) at its Arizona and Georgia facilities.
“As an organization, our work is backed by the purpose of continual improvement and a responsibility to our stakeholders,” Leal said in June. “We are proud to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the environmental integrity of our operations.”
The Piana family began in the textile business in 1582 in Biella, Italy, and opened their first American facility in Georgia in 1995.
