Maybe it wasn’t obvious from the pileup of beach chairs and drifts of Styrofoam peanuts that made up Rosie Assoulin’s spring presentation set, but the collection was one of her most down to earth yet. Known for her exuberance, both personally and in her clothes, Assoulin curbed her enthusiasm just enough to yield a lineup that addressed her client’s reality without losing the unapologetically happy playfulness that is intrinsic to the brand. “It’s for wherever your life is taking you — the city, the beach or the country,” she said. “Spring and summer are the best times of the year and it’s about getting back into nature and the attitudes you have in different environments.”
For a cool city day, there was a robin’s-egg blue denim jumpsuit that looked like a jean jacket and boyfriend jeans but was one-piece. A light gray men’s wear plaid blazer done with shirt buttons and matching pants was Assoulin’s proposition for professional life. And for a black-tie beach bonanza, there was an extremely charming “umbrella” halter top and matching skirt done in multicolored panels tipped in white like a beach umbrella. Assoulin also showed festive basket bags, outsize sun hats and shoes studded with colorful crystals that will put a pep in any step.
