For spring, Emily Smith, creative director of Lafayette 148 New York, whisked her audience away to Fifties Cuba. Translation: a tropical paradise, where palm prints decorated everything from effortless maxidresses to easy wide-leg trousers. Smith also played with kitschy vintage scarf prints, ranging from a playful dot pattern to a bold graphic stripe.
Fabrics were light and airy, and Smith translated them into unlined linen jackets and crisp cotton tunic shirts. For those who shy away from bold prints, she included a beautiful table cloth-embroidered leather coat, chic maxidresses with drapes and folds, and plenty of long, weightless dusters.
