Etienne Deroeux made his New York Fashion Week debut with an exploration and elevation of sportswear — or rather, chic ath-leisure — as in white zip-up long-sleeved shirts and ribbed knits worn under low-cut slipdresses, extra-long-sleeved jackets worn over a blue cotton oxford and boxers, and a blue plastic slip layered over an asymmetric tank. Not an easy feat. But leave it to a Frenchman to figure it out.
Deroeux launched his line in France in 2011, but has since relocated to New York, the place that most inspires him. “I wanted to capture the energized nature of the city into a light, sporty silhouette with technical elements such as zippers and strategically placed holes to keep the lightness,” he explained. Mission accomplished.
