Kaelen Haworth took a road trip from New Orleans to Texas, stopping in the cities of Marfa, Austin and Dallas as part of an inspiration jaunt arranged by the CFDA Fashion Incubator program. Drawing from the color palette and textures of these landscapes, in pale neutrals with pops of chartreuse, navy and pink, Haworth’s spring outing felt understated and restrained with a sense of ease. “I wanted it to be pretty but also stark,” she said of the collection. “There are still soft fabrics, but there’s not as much drape.”
The Toronto native reintroduced a few crisp fabrics to her lineup, such as white shirting in cotton poplin with delicate embroidery and pleated cuffs, and her signature trench coat in lightweight stretch merino wool. There were also a few pieces done in a Lurex linen blend with a subtle metallic sheen, which added a playful vibe to the lineup. Jumpsuits and caftans rendered in gray suede had an unexpected charm.
