Hokuto Katsui and Nao Yagi dialed down their signature zaniness for a more wearable approach this season with a focus on plaid, gingham and stripes. There were some chic shift dresses and strong outerwear, including a blue-and-white-striped jacket worn with cropped beige trousers. They also worked in some appealing casual froth, as in a T-shirt with a spill of ruffles atop pants in bias-cut stripes.
There were a few quirkier design motifs to round out the show, including a print that looks like it was ripped out of a Fifties-era home economics textbook — depicting pots and pans and a woman rolling dough. This vignette found its way to a midriff-bearing cropped top and a trenchcoat. Other oddball prints incorporated the letters of the alphabet or the head of a bald, mustachioed man. These patterns gave dresses and tunics a playful vibe, as did the pillows accessorizing a handful of looks.
