A master of making clothes look modern and easy, Narciso Rodriguez nuanced cool, languid sportswear shapes for resort, many of which technically qualified as daywear but offered fresh ideas when considered for evening. For example, a pale pink tank dress in fluid crepe; a top with an asymmetric hem worn over pants; and a number of excellent jumpsuits that were spare in front with sexy, sporty cutout backs. “It has the logic of a good dress,” said Rodriguez of his jumpsuits. “You put it on and it’s done.”
As a modernist, Rodriguez is prone to the pure and minimal, so the collection’s decoration came by way of diagonal seaming, meticulous splicing and color blocking inspired by retro men’s tie patterns he found at the Design Library in upstate New York.
