Max and Lubov Azria cited the French artist Coco Fronsac — known for appropriating 19th-century portraits by painting ceremonial masks over the subjects’ faces — as their resort muse. The duo infused a few pieces with mask prints and embroideries, but also drew from a more general inspiration of workwear at the turn of the last century, resulting in a grungy, utilitarian vibe.
When paired with silk dresses, tunics and pajama pants, the lineup’s more precisely tailored pieces took on a relaxed femininity. Some looks came adorned with harnesses, wrap belts and burnout lace, while a white leather motorcycle jacket had been painted black for a distressed feel.
