For fall, Jill Stuart told a dark, romantic tale of voluminous proportions and nostalgic flair. “I was thinking about alchemy and the art of essential oils,” said Stuart. “The collection is a combination of textures.” She worked with a palette of mostly black, with rare pops of dark red and blue. Dresses were the main characters, done with velvet bodices and sheer Victorian necklines and sleeves. Elsewhere, she finished languid frocks with a lace ruffle and underlay. A black velvet jacket with floral details was paired with a taffeta vintage green frilly skirt, while a blue-and-red striped coat worn over a pinstriped pant with a gray sweater and shirt gave the collection a bit of the dandy.
