Spanish designer Alejandra Alonso Rojas re-branded her collection and elevated it to what — in her second season as such — feels more personal and in tune to who she is. This might be because it’s all centered around her Spanish roots, her family heirlooms and the knitting and crocheting skills that have been passed on from generation to generation.
“For this collection, I went to my grandparents’ home in Madrid, looked at old photos of my grandmother, my great aunt (a pioneering woman pilot), old mantillas and garments — there’s just so much there,” she said. The result was beautiful intricate knits that mimic lace mantillas, light-as-feather volume-sleeve cashmere sweaters and a memorable navy crocheted gown laced in the back with a velvet bow, which Alonso Rojas said, was going to be made in white also; perhaps someone loved it so much, they want to be married in it?
