Fall 2016 is a season of change for Rebecca Minkoff. In a private preview at her look book shoot, a casting for her debut #SeeBuyWear consumer-focused show featuring spring 2016 merchandise on Saturday was also taking place. The designer juggled both seasons with panache.
For fall, Minkoff referred to the “gypset” attitude she feels is such a part of her customer’s lifestyle. Items with a found-it-along-the-way feel dotted the collection: a Western hardware motif on a bag, a Moroccan tile pattern on a silk print, or vintage military buttons on sweaters and a peacoat. Outerwear was also key to the season’s wardrobe — and Minkoff’s shearling car coats, studded suede tunic-style toppers and leopard-print coats came with a special inner phone pocket for on-the-go access. These were worn over silk dresses in various lengths, leather and suede miniskirts and striped mohair knitwear that channeled a boho jet-setter and were perfect for easy layering.

Minkoff’s #SeeBuyWear show, she noted, won’t solely be a rehash of her September lineup, although there will be some familiar pieces. It will feature only the looks that were picked up by retailers — save for 16 new styles the designer added to be sold in her stores and potentially by her current wholesale accounts. New hair and makeup will also give the show a fresh look.
According to Minkoff, “a third of the room will be hand-picked customers chosen by our retail and media partners.” Come September, the lineup on Minkoff’s runway will be the fall 2016 collection shown in this week’s preview, with a few added pieces to spice things up.
