Margaretha Ley’s original vision for Escada was that of a “sporty luxury” house, which at the time of its founding in Munich in 1978 seemed to fill a void in the market. Ley established the label as just that — and to this day it has been delivering on its premise.
For fall, Escada’s fashion director Daniel Wingate wanted to reiterate the house’s commitment to the concept, mainly by concentrating on a day-to-night wardrobe of desk-to-dinner appropriate looks for the modern woman. He began by bringing back some archival knits from the Eighties, such as a ribbed oversize V-neck sweater shown with cropped trousers — to be worn covering the shoulders for the office and pulled down a bit for a date. Jumpsuits were designed to allow the same versatility.
