Sure it all started with the perfect T-shirt — the kind that felt amazing to the touch and had just the right fit — but Anthony Thomas Melillo has moved far beyond that. The focus of his contemporary collection, ATM, is about making the familiar luxe. “It’s not about bells and whistles,” he said. “It’s about fabric and fit.”
Melillo has the formula down to a science, designing real clothes for real life. For fall, he presented great outerwear that included a classic coat with a faux-fur collar and a fully reversible robe coat, as well as lightweight cashmere sweaters, a year-round cape, a washed-silk pajama top and sexy MicroModal ribbed dresses and bodysuits. Melillo also showed sweats in every incarnation, from a traditional hoodie to suede jogging pants — and managed to make basics look chic.
