The Seventies are alive and well for Hidenori Kumakiri. While he didn’t go the disco route or get too exaggerated with literal reproductions of the decade’s more over-the-top looks, he still managed to turn out a Beautiful People collection for fall that clearly referenced the era without looking dated. The Lauren Hutton-suitable attire included wide-leg pants of both the floor-grazing variety and cropped versions worn with boots. Up top, he focused on double-breasted coats, fuzzy sweaters and the odd poncho.
More striking pieces included an ombré cardigan that mimicked the hues of sunset, a dress in a cute lightbulb print and fur-trimmed outerwear. Nothing was exactly groundbreaking, but the collection looked cohesive, well-constructed and commercially viable.
