“We were quite playful this time,” said Keren Craig of her and Georgina Chapman’s Marchesa bridal collection for fall, talking specifically about a pleated tulle and lace peplum dress with a detachable skirt that revealed a sleeker silhouette beneath. The duo focused on the fine details, working metallic embroidery, mother-of-pearl beading and 3-D floral appliqués onto slinky A-line and fishtail gowns in a gorgeous, frothy lineup. Plunging necklines and high slits gave some looks a sultry appeal — an embroidered lace bustier dress with a sheer back was a prime example — but the duo also offered their customer more traditional ballgowns done strapless or with sleeves and opulently bejeweled bodices. The atmospheric presentation, held in a lofty studio overlooking the Hudson River as the sun set, worked perfectly in tandem with the collection’s dreamy romanticism.
