Though members of the British royal family tend to make public appearances for royal engagements, now and then they join A-list celebrities on the red carpet for high-profile film premieres.
For decades, members of the British royal family have attended movie premieres, dating as far back as when Queen Elizabeth II was still a princess. Princess Diana also had several notable movie premiere red carpet moments, like when she wore a red, shimmering chiffon gown by Bellville Sassoon for the premiere of the James Bond film “For Your Eyes Only” in 1981.
Contemporary royals, like Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, have attended a fair few red carpet movie premieres. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex memorably wore a Jason Wu black midi dress to the premiere of “The Lion King” in 2019.
In 2022, Catherine, Princess of Wales attended the premiere of “Top Gun: Maverick” in a sleek black dress with an off-the-shoulder white band courtesy of one of her go-to designers: Roland Mouret.
