An Unreleased Air Jordan 1 Sample Reveals Anime Collaboration That Could Have Been

The "Naruto" x Air Jordan 1 Utility was intended as a Zion Williamson collaboration.

In 2022 and 2023, Jordan Brand and “Naruto” collaborated on four sneakers driven by Zion Williamson‘s love for the anime and manga franchise. The New Orleans Pelicans star’s first two signature sneakers were involved, as were the Air Jordan 37 and Air 200E SP, but a never-before-seen sample that’s just emerged reveals what would have trumped all of them.

The “Naruto” x Air Jordan 1 Utility has been shown for the first time in a sample obtained by the sneaker reseller David Scott, known as @davidsgrails on Instagram. Utilizing the same cargo pocket construction as the ultra-limited “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” collaboration from 2023, the sneaker employs the military green, black and navy look of the Jonin, the franchise’s high-level shinobi. Ripstop nylon, suede and satin are used for the upper, and an abundance of “Naruto” iconography can be found throughout.

The Uzumaki symbol graces the tongue, insole and cinch toggle for the heel pocket, while the fire icon is applied directly onto the heel. A metal badge further up the heel carries the Konoha, representing the Hidden Leaf Village, and an external tag on the lateral strap carries branding for “Naruto,” Jordan Brand and Williamson.

Given that this edition of the Air Jordan 1 hasn’t surfaced until now, it’s likely that it was produced in extremely limited quantities and not even as an exclusive for friends and family.

Since the two years of Jordan Brand collaborations, “Naruto” has also partnered with Crocs, Converse and Asics. But because of the stature of the Air Jordan 1, this would have been the most coveted “Naruto” sneaker of all had it gone on to release.

The “Naruto” x Air Jordan 1 Utility is still listed as available for purchase through @davidsgrails in a size 9. Reports indicated the asking price is $7,500, signaling just what a collector’s item it is for “Naruto” fans and sneakerheads alike.
