Melissa Enters the Sneaker Space With Icon, Rush and Beat Designs

The Melissa X collection skips leather and mesh in favor of futuristic soles, genderless sizing and vegan materials.

Melissa has made platform heels, cowboy boots and even flip-flops in glossy plastic. Now, after more than four decades of footwear innovation, the Brazilian brand is stepping into something new: sneakers.

Launching Thursday, Melissa X is the brand’s first global sneaker collection — a three-style debut designed in-house to reimagine sport footwear through Melissa’s material-first lens. The collection includes three unisex silhouettes: Icon, Rush and Beat, each made from vegan Melflex PVC and finished with oversized, sculptural soles.

There’s no leather, no mesh and no borrowed retro framework. Instead, the sneakers reflect Melissa’s long-standing aesthetic: curved lines, bold silhouettes and futuristic detailing that prioritizes visual impact.

The Icon sneaker is the sleekest of the three. Its layered upper and thick outsole lend it a graphic, almost architectural feel. The side paneling nods to classic branding motifs without name-checking any one reference, and the tonal overlays in silver or cream give the shoe subtle dimensionality.

Rush offers a different kind of boldness. This style is chunkier, more exaggerated, built for volume and contrast. A high-profile outsole wraps partially up the sides, with waved detailing that blends into translucent or two-tone uppers. The black-on-black and multicolor versions show the full range of Melissa’s visual language: experimental, but wearable.

Beat rounds out the lineup with a softer profile. The silhouette is lower, more curved and a little easier on the eyes and feet. It’s the most everyday-friendly option, especially in blush pink or cream. But even here, Melissa’s signature molded forms and layered texture keep the look distinct.

Melissa has spent the past year exploring new categories through collaboration, with recent drops including a platform-heavy line with Diesel and a jelly shoe remix with Nodaleto. But Melissa X is a solo move, and a sign of where the brand is headed next.
