Michael Jordan’s Super-Limited Air Jordan 1 High ’85 ‘Bred’ Will Reportedly Release Again Later This Year

The initial release is believed to have consisted of just 10,000 pairs.

The return of the Air Jordan 1 “Bred” came and went with a lot of sneakerheads left empty handed, as the most precise recreation of the AJ1’s original proportion was reportedly limited to just 10,000 pairs at 23 U.S. stores. Those who missed out, and those who can never have enough, will be relieved to find out that the sneaker is expected to release for a second time in 2025.

The Air Jordan 1 High ’85 “Bred” will release again during the holiday season, according to Sneaker News. Although the SKU is different for the shoe’s quick return to market, it will carry the same $250 price tag — suggesting that the faithful execution and more premium materials will be applied once again. Complex, however, has reported that the shoe won’t be a one-to-one rerelease and will be a “special” edition of the same colorway.

Jordan Brand went through a painstaking process to nail the execution of the Air Jordan 1 better than ever in celebration of the seminal model’s 40th anniversary. Three years of work went into the black and red sneaker, and Michael Jordan himself requested that the shoes come unlaced to honor his locker room routine of lacing up his shoes before every game. Among the other small details doted over were the box reading “Air Jordan” rather than “Air Jordan 1,” the stars on the outsole laid out just right and the midsole taking on a more sporadic pattern.

“We’re really interested to see what people think,” Jason Grisby, product director of the Air Jordan 1 for Jordan Brand, told Boardroom in a feature on the “Bred” AJ1. “There’s so many nuances to the shoe from height, materials, leather and hand feel. Everyone has a different perspective — it creates great discourse online. A High OG is going to feel different than a collaboration pair, and from these.”

The original “Bred” colorway, which Jordan never actually wore in an NBA setting outside of All-Star Weekend, is the only one so far to release with the meticulous recreation. A “Royal” edition was made in samples given to VIPs only, as was the “Chicago” edition Jordan is best known for actually playing in.
