Taylor Swift is leaning into “The Life of a Showgirl” with an empowering shoe choice — towering platforms that nod to a quintessential look of showgirls past. The singer-songwriter wore Jimmy Choo‘s statement-making Claressa style on the “The Tonight Show Starring Fallon” on Monday to unify a head-to-toe sparkling look.
Platform shoes have a long history, and the bold footwear style has been donned by many entertainers in the past, from Marilyn Monroe adapting clear heels with interchangeable ribbons to Carmen Miranda famously performing in towering shoes that elevated her petite height. Now Taylor Swift is continuing the tradition, donning the footwear look that isn’t just alluring and eye-catching, but can be seen as a statement of confidence.
Monday’s footwear look was not a surprising choice for the superstar — she recently wore Christian Louboutin’s Sandaloo platform style on “The Graham Norton Show” and stepped out in silver Gucci platforms in New York City in May.

For the “Tonight” show, Swift went for a bedazzled version of the towering Claressa silhouette. The shoes featured connected straps that created a cutout on top of the foot; a slender ankle strap secured the style. Silhouette wise, the upper was minimalist compared to the chunky platform and ultra-high heel, which was wide but slender. The tiny glittering stones embellishing the shoes all over aligned with her asymmetric off-the-shoulder crystal minidress by Giuseppe Di Morabito. Swift’s look was put together by stylist and designer Joseph Cassell Falconer, who worked on the looks in the music video for “The Fate of Ophelia.”
This new album era has shown off the material glamour of being a performer, and that includes fancy shoes. For example, Swift was photographed wearing René Caovilla sandals as part of her album art, specifically the brand’s Chandelier style which features crystals dangling from its front straps and sinuous ankle strap. In other album art moments, she’s showcased Manolo Blahnik’s Hamedi heel in black satin with a crystal-embellished strap, and crystal-embellished Rosalie sandals by Christian Louboutin.
Swift’s 12th studio album “The Life of a Showgirl,” created with producers and songwriters Max Martin and Shellback, was released on Friday. To promote this new effort, she has thus far appeared on “The Graham Norton Show,” BBC Radio 2 and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” with another appearance slated for on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” later this week.
