Scotts, the lawn care products company, is tuning into Gen Z trends for its latest launch: The new product isn’t fertilizer or seeds, but a pair of shoes laden with a bed of real grass.
On platforms like TikTok, members of Gen Z have encouraged the idea of going outside to “touch grass” to get offline, become more grounded and get in tune with nature — a response to our increasingly digital landscape in which people often spend a great deal of time online.

Scotts is now letting people keep a little bit of grass beneath their feet wherever they go with a pair of limited-edition black slides — aptly named Clip ‘N Slides — with green grass covering the entire insole. With a classic casual slide construction, the minimalist black sandals feature a ribbed upper with Scotts branding. An accompanying box reads “Touch real grass Scotts grass wherever you plant your feet.”

Nature continues to serve as a major inspiration in fashion, from Nike collaborating with Susan Fang to a Burberry collection with the king’s gardens in Highgrove to a Collina Strada show at which designer Hillary Taymour actually mentioned “touch grass” ahead of the show.
“You know the meme, ‘touch grass?’” Taymour said. “I like to give back to green spaces in the city to help them stay alive, which I think is super important.”
