Queen Letizia broke from her rewear lane on Monday at Madrid’s Royal Palace, opting for a new pair of Carolina Herrera slingbacks instead of one of the Magrit kitten heels or familiar pumps that usually anchor her daytime schedule. The appearance came as King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia received Portuguese President António José Seguro and First Lady Margarida Maldonado Freitas ahead of a luncheon in their honor.
The new pair was Carolina Herrera’s Lacito Insignia slingback in peony, a very low 20mm style finished with a pointed toe, a narrow slingback strap and an oversize double bow at the vamp centered with small gold-tone initials. The shoe is part of the Spanish label’s Insignia line, with a 20mm heel, leather insole and leather sole.

The Spanish royal almost always works from a much tighter footwear script. At the Vatican in March, she returned to her go-to Magrit buckle low heels in beige, the kind of restrained rewear that has come to define her working wardrobe. In February, during a visit to Pedro García’s factory in Elda, she went in the opposite direction with black knee-high boots from the Spanish label, another example of how often she use practical shapes rather than novelty shoes to carry an official look.
Letizia paired the slingbacks with a pale blush crepe midi dress with a softly rolled bateau neckline, turned-back bracelet sleeves and a straight skirt that fell just below the calf. The shoe stayed in her usual daytime register — low, pointed and polished — with the bow supplying the only real flourish.
Letizia has worn Carolina Herrera slingbacks before, including black suede and fuchsia croc-effect versions, and Monday’s pair stayed inside that same low-heel, pointed-toe lane. The bow did not come out of nowhere, either. She has worn Magrit’s black croc-embossed pumps with a bow before, which made the detail feel familiar even in a fresher peony finish.
