All About the Shoes in ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2,’ From Miranda’s Balenciaga Heels to Andy’s Glittering Aquazzura Pumps

Aquazzura, Celine, Christian Louboutin and more brands are featured.

All eyes will be on the fashion in the much-anticipated film “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” set for release Friday, and the lineup of designer looks curated by costume designer Molly Rogers includes all sorts of shoes worthy of the silver screen.

Rogers explained to FN how footwear plays a significant role in “The Devil Wears Prada” universe: “Shoes are a big deal in this set, and this script, and this world that we’re trying to illustrate and portray. So you have to have lots of shoes in the room, because you really want to know — that’s the best sneaker. Big choices.”

In the sequel, Anne Hathaway‘s Andy Sachs finds herself back at Runway magazine, where about 20 years prior she was an assistant to the difficult-to-please editor in chief Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep. Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return as well, respectively reprising their roles as Emily Charlton and Nigel Kipling, rounding out the “core four” group, while other cast members like Simone Ashley and B.J. Novak are fresh faces.

From the halls of the Runway office in New York to the streets of Milan, the actors are outfitted in distinctive looks to match their characters — and there’s quite a few swanky events where they dress up in their finest threads. In one such moment, Andy makes a sharp statement in an Armani Privé look which is equaled in glamour by a pair of glittering Aquazzura heels. It’s the brand’s Passions Crystal style, a classic pointed-toe pump crafted from satin and mesh and embellished with stripes of crystals.

Aquazzura is just a beautiful shoe,” Rogers said of the label led by creative director Edgardo Osorio. “I just love them.” The Armani look and Aquazzura heels were on display at a press junket in New York City, alongside a few other costumes from the sequel.

Rogers was particularly fond of a pair of Celine heels worn by Andy in the film, sharing, “It was an older model Celine. It was a strappy brown sandal, it looked so good on Annie. I didn’t know what it was — it was so classic, it was a hearty shoe, like you could move around the city. I loved it. Every time we were doing something, I’d be like, ‘That shoe goes with it.'”

Filming on location in the streets of storied cities has its pros and cons.

“I know Meryl started resenting me over the shoe choices because of the cobblestones,” Rogers said. “And I get it — I mean look at me, I’m in a flat, I’m not teetering around. Emily’s character works for Dior, so she is going to have a high heel on most of the time, you know she did some boots, whatever, but that’s her lane, that’s her world.”

The costume designer also noted that she didn’t want to include the famous Chanel thigh-high boots from the first film in the sequel, preferring they remain crystallized in that iconic scene (when Andy wows her coworkers after her makeover).

But not that’s not to say there were zero thigh-high boots in the sequel. Emily Blunt’s character Emily wore Christian Louboutin Miss Z 100 mm Botta Alta knee-high boots, another shoe style which was on display at the junket; the Miss Z line launched in 2025, aiming to be a more comfortable heel option for customers. And shoes worn by Stanley Tucci’s Nigel were showcased as well: a pair of Santoni Ira Double Monk Strap leather dress shoes in dark brown, fitting in with his sharp menswear aesthetic.

For a high-profile red carpet event at the top of the film, Miranda naturally makes a grand entrance. And it’s her red slingback pump that’s shown in a close-up before the rest of her look, which is a Balenciaga ballroom gown in red silk super taffeta inspired by the archive.

Rogers explained the powerful shoe moment, “That was sent by the house of Balenciaga, the same color as the gown. So we felt like to be purist, to make it a Balenciaga look, to leave the footwear alone — and they had sent it from Paris, that’s what it was going to be.”

While most shoes don’t get a close-up shot in the sequel, eagle-eyed viewers might still notice footwear moments like striped Thom Browne platforms or Schiaparelli Keyhole pumps on screen. In the sequel to the film where Andy nicknamed her coworkers “clackers” for the sound of their high heels, we could expect nothing less than the high fashion suite of shoes curated by Rogers.
