The store is intended to be an immersive and inclusive space for new and old fans of the brand, encompassing 3,400 square feet across two floors. The entire Dr. Martens lineup of styles is offered, including Made in England icon silhouettes, store-exclusive styles, new designs and collaborative efforts.

The Doctor’s Orders Cafe, influenced by classic British cafes, lives at the heart of the store, reviving the beloved cafe from the label’s original Convent Garden flagship. It will offer simple and purposeful food made in partnership with social enterprises including London’s Dusty Knuckle Bakery and the Luminary Baker, a partner which the independent charity Dr. Martens Foundation has supported since 2022. Guests can try sandwiches, cakes, teas and coffee which aid meaningful causes in the local community.

Additionally, the beacon store showcases Dr. Martens’ commitment to alternative craft, which is reflected in the design of the store with a blend of heritage materials and modern craftsmanship. The store makes use of salvaged wood from British schools and museums for the foundation, and the Made in England area includes bespoke burgundy wall tiles from the manufacturers responsible for the famous ceramics of the London Underground, in homage to lasting British design.

Additionally, a collection of artifacts from the Dr. Martens archive is displayed through the store’s central staircase.

The beacon store is a key move for Dr. Martens under the helm of new CEO Ije Nwokorie, who took the reins from Kenny Wilson, and it’s a significant milestone in the brand’s fresh consumer-first strategy. Since taking on his new role, Nwokorie has made key leadership appointments, which have included Carla Murphy taking on the role of chief brand officer in July, a position previously held by Nwokorie. Neil Cummings boarded Murphy’s team as global brand creative director.

Murphy said of the new store in a statement, “Brewer Street is where our heritage and future meet and is an important moment in the execution of our new strategy. Inside Brewer Street, wearers can explore a world of Doc’s and Alternative Craft with our customization bar and Made in England collections, but what excites me most is the potential for new connections with our wearers and partners. It feels like a natural evolution of the way Doc’s have brought people together for generations, a place to immerse, connect and reconnect.”

Cummings said in a statement, “Brewer Street is built from the concept of Assembly. It speaks to two themes so true to Doc’s: the practice of making, and of people coming together and finding community. We drew on reference from democratic meeting places; town halls, gig venues, clubs and market squares — before disassembling their forms and reconstructing them into something new, full of human energy and warmth. Throughout the store, materials, textures and crafts collide; restored woods and recycled plastics bump into rich leathers and handcrafted tiles. The result speaks to the way we make and our explorations in alternative craft.”
